Many of our sponsor dogs are "special needs" greyhounds whose stay at our kennel may be longer than most.
Here are some of our greyhounds currently available for sponsorship.
PansyPansy is a tiny white and red girl weighing all of 53 pounds! She was born in May, 2006 and came to us at the end of March this year after a racing career of a total of nine races, all at the Caliente track in Tijuana. She is a bright, sweet little girl, somewhat hesitant with all the other dogs during turnouts which causes her to be "picked on" at times, but she's not really shy and we're sure she will learn the ways of the outside world very quickly.

Filly Filly is a parti-colored white and brindle girl who came to us in July '07. She was born in August ’04, but she acts more like a very young two year old. Filly is an exceptional dog with a bright mind, but she’s a huge handful in the behavior department. She knows no rules or boundaries! She's bossy and very high-prey, doesn't know what a leash is for except to try to break out of it, almost completely "lacking in social skills." She’s become the all-time high scorer in "doggie time outs" during turnout! Known as our current "wild child," Filly has a lot to learn before we can recommend her for adoption. She's very loving with people, though, and with training and socialization she will one day be a wonderful and entertaining companion to a lucky family.

Gusty Gusty is a beautiful red boy born in October 2005. He came to us from an owner in New Mexico who wanted to dispose of a dog he no longer needed. He asked if GAC would take him, and of course we did. He arrived in early January. Gusty is timid and fearful, and it’s safe to assume that he was no longer wanted by the owner because he was too frightened to be a racing dog. He may have been passed over by other groups. Gusty is nervous about meeting new people and very frightened of the outside world, but he loves to play with the other dogs during turnouts. With some time and TLC, we know Gusty will overcome his fears and be ready for his special family.

Blair Blair was born in April, 2005. In August 2007 she suffered a badly broken leg at the Caliente racetrack and her owner/trainer called GAC immediately. One of the kennel volunteers offered to wait at the kennel for them, so the trainer got her stabilized and made the trip across the border that night. He stayed to help bathe her and put her to bed. She needed surgery to repair her leg and is still under the surgeon's care, but soon she will get her final X-rays, have her splint removed and begin healing and learning about life in the outside world. She is a sweet very wiggly girl and will be a delight to work with when she's healthy once again.

Lefty Malachi is a 6-1/2 year old ex-racer who was rescued from the Madera County Animal Shelter in August '07. A tall, brindle intact male, he had been dumped in one of the shelter′s lock boxes. The shelter contacted GAC immediately, and after two weeks in an emergency foster home he was transported to our adoption center. When he first arrived, Malachi was a bit fearful of both dogs and people; probably due to not having had much socialization. Now he has been neutered and he′s fine with the other dogs, but still a little hand-shy with people. He settles easily and loves to be petted, but he is never pushy or in-your-face to get attention. This older boy would make a wonderful companion in a loving home with other dogs, but not with kitties or other small animals.

Donate $10, $15, $25 (or more) a month to sponsor one of the 30 greyhounds at the Greyhound Adoption Center. You'll receive a picture of "your" dog and a letter every month about his or her progress. When your dog is adopted, you'll get a special letter, telling you about the home and family it's going to. Then you'll be assigned a new sponsor dog.

Sponsorship can be rewarding for school classrooms, retirement home residents, and others who can't adopt their own greyhound, but want to be a part of our rescue effort. In addition to your monthly sponsor letter, you'll receive our national award-winning, quarterly publication, Offtrack Greyhound, and our special volunteer newsletter, The 'Scoop.

Minimum sponsorship is $10 per month (or $120 for one year), payable by check or by credit card.
